Moti is a merchant who sells jaggery in the market, with the help of an older woman, Mahjubhi, who makes exemplary jaggery. The placing of the 'toddy-tapper' figure in the centre of the other characters indicates his centrality to the narrative dilemma of the film. A smaller female figure (Padma Khanna) forms the apex of the triangle and is distinguished from the portrait through the depiction of her loose hair and by the way she is shown in natural colours while the rest of the poster is in shades of brown.
